Conscious design for humans and their thinking machines
A book, a film collection, and a practice in designing consciousness.
The second edition of Conscious UX.
A condensed second edition at a lower price, so it reaches more people. Foreword by Brenda Laurel. The methodology behind everything else in this studio.
Seventeen thousand short films. One year. One question.
What does it mean to be conscious, and what does it mean to design for human consciousness using thinking machines?
Exploring Consciousness is a study in three parts: consciousness, space, and time. I used AI to generate the films because the films helped me see the questions clearly. The medium became the method.
The work is human-made and AI-rendered. The selection, the framing, the pause before saying this one matters: that's the human part. The tech is the brush. The hand still belongs to the designer.
Consciousness, space, and time: three threads that run through the book and the films.
Consciousness
What it means to be conscious, whether it's unique to humans, or whether thinking machines can share it. And what it means to design for humans inside that question.
Space
Where we exist, and how presence connects to consciousness. The oneness of humanity inside the infinite space and time we're standing in.
Time
How consciousness has stayed the same, and changed, from the beginning to now. And what comes next, with humans and AI in the new world we're entering.
